Feeling happy and free. Strong woman overcoming her darkest fears.Did you feel hopeful and inspired or perhaps too busy to even notice? What bubbles up inside of you when you think of your personal circumstances and the possibilities that lie ahead?

With spring around the corner, March is a great opportunity, to take stock of what is going well in your life and to assess where you are still stuck.

Are you in some way:

  • thinking you are not enough
  • playing small so others don’t feel insecure around you
  • making everyone else’s needs more important than your own, whether at home or at work
  • hesitating to express yourself because you are either feeling like you are too much or not enough
  • avoiding putting your unique self out there, talents and all for fear of being un-safe
  • being undervalued for your contributions to the family, workplace, community and/or
  • feeling all alone and isolated, not receiving the kind of support you need?

It’s OK if in this moment you feel uncomfortable, it’s even to be expected. Perhaps you’re also feeling pain and grief. Know, that you are not alone. There are tens of thousands of women feeling just like you – feeling a little stuck, maybe a lot stuck or wondering can things really change for me?!? This is not about taking stock to then turn up the volume on your Inner Critic. That’s definitely not the answer!

On the contrary, it is about taking a little distance, having a fresh look, gaining a different perspective, and giving circumstances new meaning.

How about sitting with a heaping serving of self-compassion and

  • mapping the journey, you have traveled
  • acknowledging how much you have been through and survived
  • valuing the resilience and persistence muscles you’ve built over the years
  • making time for some much-needed self-care
  • accepting yourself as you are today (Yes, we can all grow and improve, and we are, however it is time for some self-love.)
  • bringing conscious awareness to all the life lessons you have learned
  • celebrating the wisdom, you have earned
  • appreciating Yourself and soaking in the beauty of your Beingness?

What are your abilities, talents, and gifts? You have them! What do you find easy to do and get praised for? Do not sell yourself short. This is just between you and you.

With all your accomplishments, continuous striving, and hard work is there still something you yearn for? If so, what is that “something” that  has been sitting on the back burner for a while, yet somewhere deep within, is trying to make itself heard? What is that quiet voice within  nudging you to act on?

For the longest time, women were taught to put their own dreams to the side and to ignore their inner calling. Everyone else’s needs and desires were suppose to come first. Although that has been shifting, the cost of playing small continues to be huge for women. Too many ladies:

  • have low levels of worthiness and self-esteem
  • experience strained relationships
  • live with a lack of joy and have not much fun
  • lack well-being
  • are invisible and not valued for their contributions
  • receive fewer promotions and inferior income levels
  • feel isolated and all alone
  • see themselves as not being enough or being too much.

Once again, right here, right now, you are safe! There is no need to judge yourself. Rather it’s about taking a higher view, sitting with what is, allowing your feelings to rise, accepting where you are at and, what you are currently dealing with.  We all do the best we can within our circumstances. When we know differently, we can choose do things differently or not.

Once armed with a conscious awareness of what is actually playing out, internally and externally, you can choose to keep going in the same manner. Or you can decide to make a different choice, one that feels more empowering to you.

The key is remembering that only you really know what you feel, knows what brings you peace and well-being, what fills your cup and ultimately what is right for you.

The number one barrier for women, at the self-actualization level, who are looking to be all they can be, is not in the external world. It is inside of each one of us. It is our beliefs, habits and patterns that are shaping our current reality without us even realizing it.

This is contrary to what we see in the traditional male systems. The male energy system is linear and to access power as society defines it – their system works. However alone, it doesn’t work for women and their process of self-actualization. We need to deal with the stuff at the self-concept level otherwise we will never build something that is sustainable.

No amount of information, techniques or strategies will make a lasting difference unless as women we make the core shift of who believe we can be. We need to break the universal patterns of aloneness and isolation, of not feeling safe, not feeling like we are enough or being too much.

Unless we identify and breakthrough our old story and patterns we have held from a young age (usually handed down to us by society, culture, family, and religion) we cannot fully be all we can be.

It all starts by asking better questions. The questions we ask ourselves can create new awareness.
